Your Role

We seek an energetic and insightful person with a broad understanding of health care, social services, and the intersection of the two, with recognized, measurable expertise in relevant industry areas to serve as a Senior Consultant, Technology Strategy. Core desired skill sets for this position include prior experience in fast-paced consulting or similar work environments and advanced project management and communication skills to ensure projects are successful and all team members, clients, and firm leadership are appropriately informed at all times. As a key member of our consulting team, you will be expected to work on our client engagements at all levels, potentially even as a single individual contributor.

What you will do

  • Lead and support client engagements across the firm’s portfolio of work, including managing project teams, taking responsibility for relationships with clients, and contributing at all project levels.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on client engagements in the areas of health information technology, data strategy, health data analytics & analysis, and interoperability / health information exchange.
  •  Advise internal and external stakeholders on Health IT concepts, technology platforms, and their appropriate application.
  • Contribute to thought leadership activities (e.g., blog posts, conference presentations, publications, etc.) to promote and advance our work.  
  • Serve as a senior contributor and thought leader in strategic planning and business development, including overseeing and contributing to proposal development, identification of and outreach to prospects, and supporting market growth development.  
  • Develop subject matter expertise and analytical skills across Intrepid Ascent practice areas (technology strategy, policy innovation, and community change) through professional growth activities such as reading industry material, attending conferences and educational events, online courses and webinars, knowledge transfer with other staff, and utilizing learning resources from relevant professional organizations. 
  • Manage and mentor one or more direct reports and/or assigned subcontractors.
  • Initiating, leading, and/or supporting internal company initiatives such as learning collaboratives, special workgroups, or new system or tool implementations as needed.

What you will bring to the team

  • Health Information Technology Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the health information technology market, including knowledge of electronic health record technology, health information exchange and interoperability (relationships and/or vendor expertise in California and New York preferred), and data analytics platform experience. Prior experience managing technology system procurements and their implementation is a plus.  
  • Consulting / Technical Assistance / Program Management Experience:  5 years or more of previous consulting or other relevant experience. May include technical assistance and/or program management services on multi-stakeholder initiatives outside of traditional client relationships. This experience is critical since this role will need to contribute to multiple engagements simultaneously, with frequent context-switching during the workday, while maintaining excellent focus, quality of work product, and teamwork.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire teams through creating a sense of shared mission, modeling collaborative engagement, and demonstrating a commitment to positive outcomes on both internal and external projects. Experience in senior management and/or strategic decision-making will be helpful here given the independent and often quick-moving decisions that are needed to help our clients with their needs.
  • Project Management Skills: Expertise in project management processes including the ability to use project management tools at all levels – as project lead, project manager, project coordinator, etc. – to keep projects on track, team members engaged and supported and provide clear documentation.
  • Strong Analytical Skills:  Advanced research and data analysis and visualization experience, creative problem solving, and research background.
  • Commitment to Public Health: Commitment to public health objectives for underserved populations; strong understanding of safety-net programs (especially Medicaid), community health centers, public hospitals, and managed care/value-based care; understanding of social determinants of health and intersection of social services and health care services.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience, preferably in a consulting environment
  • Knowledge and experience in health information exchange and data interoperability, including knowledge of major market players, systems, and standards.
  • Electronic health record system knowledge and experience, including knowledge of major market players, systems, and implementation and use standards.
  • Health data analytics and/or analysis experience, including strategic experience in architecting or designing the solution deployment strategy for these types of systems.
  • Strong leadership orientation demonstrated through progressive responsibility in past roles and ability to articulate the desired impact in the future.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and direct reports effectively.
  • Experience managing relationships and delivering presentations for clients or organizational leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce professionally written documents, visual diagrams, and reports.
  • Creative problem-solving skills including the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, synthesize analyses accurately, and highlight the implications of findings.
  • Expertise in project management activities, including planning project resources, assembling, and leading a project team, time management, meeting facilitation, issue, and risk management, project schedule and progress monitoring, deliverables tracking, reporting and documentation, and evaluation of project success.
  • Dexterity in understanding client and stakeholder needs and expectations with the ability to respond timely and appropriately.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the proficiency to master new topics and ideas quickly; additional qualifications include creative problem-solving, a high level of motivation, efficiency, and flexibility.
  • Agility and flexibility to contribute to multiple engagements simultaneously while maintaining excellent focus, quality of work product, and teamwork.
  • Experience with standard business and collaboration tools such as MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and Smartsheet.

 Preferred candidates will also have

  • Experience in a senior leadership or executive role.
  • 10 years or more of professional experience, ideally in a consulting environment.
  • Experience with public speaking engagements and/or in publishing professional or semi-professional materials in the health IT sector.
  • Experience directing or managing technology system procurement processes (e.g. running or managing an RFP / RFA / RFI process).
  • Experience with population health management data systems design and/or architectures.
  • Experience in the public health sector.
