Job Overview
We seek a team-oriented, reliable, energetic, and insightful person with a broad understanding of the intersections of health care and human service sectors and a focus on human-centered design and/or quality improvement methodology to serve in a full-time role as a Senior Consultant. You will be a key member supporting our co-design portfolio of work and participating in our Co-Design hub. The Co-Design hub utilizes design thinking, stakeholder engagement, change management, and quality improvement methods to promote equitable and sustainable change to advance community health transformation. We also apply these skills to help clients and their partners incorporate technology into their diverse ecosystems to strengthen human relationships and processes through partnership with our colleagues in the Technology and Policy Hubs. By guiding program design and implementation from the perspective of individuals and overall community impact, this role is crucial to putting people at the center of transformation to improve health and social outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and support client engagements across the firm’s portfolio of work, including managing project teams, taking responsibility for relationships with clients, and contributing at all project levels.
- Apply human-centered design and/or quality improvement methodologies to supporting project teams and client engagements, including but not limited to designing and facilitating projects, large meetings, and stakeholder collaboratives to unlock collective intelligence and decision making with stakeholders across sectors.
- Coach and support team members in applying human-centered design and/or quality improvement expertise to client work.
- Serve as a senior contributor and thought leader in strategic planning and business development, including overseeing and contributing to proposal development, identification of and outreach to prospects, and supporting market growth development.
- Manage and mentor one or more direct reports and/or assigned subcontractors
- Conduct research, analysis of information, and lead to the development of high-quality work products, such as assessments, presentations, in–person facilitation guides, and client reports. Align expertise with a broader understanding of health care, human service, and policy environments to generate insights supporting innovation in the field.
- Review, interpret, and analyze federal and state policies, including research and analysis of current guidance and best practices for policy implementation (e.g. Medicaid 1115 waiver programs).
- Maintain and deepen subject matter expertise across Intrepid Ascent practice areas (technology strategy, policy innovation, and co-design)
- Serve as a valuable team player, supporting clients across our firm’s portfolio of work, including supporting and leading client engagements in our co-design portfolio.
- Contribute to thought leadership activities (e.g., blog posts, conference presentations, publications, etc.) to promote and advance our work.
- Initiate, lead, and/or support internal company initiatives such as learning collaboratives, special workgroups, or new system or tool implementations as needed.
Qualifications
- Human-Centered Design Expertise: Demonstrated experience leveraging human-centered design methodologies to support project work. Familiarity with various tools used to unlock collective intelligence, and application of these tools in a work environment; AND/OR Quality Improvement Expertise: Demonstrated experience leveraging quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Model for Improvement, Lean Six Sigma) to support project work. Familiarity with various QI tools (e.g. driver diagram, plan-do-study-act cycles, etc.) and application of these methodologies in a work environment.
- Consulting / Technical Assistance / Program Management Experience: 5 years or more of previous consulting or other relevant experience. May include technical assistance and/or program management services on multi-stakeholder initiatives outside of traditional client relationships. This experience is critical since this role will need to contribute to multiple engagements simultaneously, with frequent context-switching during the workday, while maintaining excellent focus, quality of work product, and teamwork.
- Leadership: 3 years or more of previous experience managing direct reports, with a proven ability to drive outsized impact through effective and equitable management of teams. Ability to lead and inspire teams through creating a sense of shared mission, modeling collaborative engagement, and demonstrating a commitment to positive outcomes on both internal and external projects. Experience in senior management and/or strategic decision-making given the quick-moving decisions that are needed to help our clients with their needs.
- Project Management Skills: Expertise in overseeing project management processes including the ability to use project management tools at all levels – as project lead, project manager, project coordinator, etc. – to keep projects on track, team members engaged and supported and provide clear documentation.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Advanced research and data analysis and visualization experience, creative problem solving, and research background.
- Public Health Interest: Commitment to public health objectives for underserved populations; strong understanding of safety-net programs (esp. Medicaid), community health centers, public hospitals, and managed care/value-based care; understanding of social determinants of health and intersection of social services and health care services.
