Job Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive revenue growth, develop strategic client relationships, and support the expansion of our market presence. The ideal candidate has proven experience in B2B business development – preferably in healthcare or consulting – and excels in client engagement, opportunity qualification, consultative solution development, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
This role is primarily external-facing, requiring up to 40% travel for conferences, client meetings, and networking activities. The Business Development Manager will identify, qualify, and pursue business opportunities, exercising discretion and judgment to make strategic recommendations that impact company growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Business Development & Opportunity Management
- Independently identify, research, and engage prospective clients through targeted outreach, networking, and follow-up.
- Drive opportunities through the full sales cycle and convert qualified leads into signed agreements or contracts.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder and partner relationships to understand needs, propose solutions, and deliver measurable revenue outcomes.
- Exercise independent judgment on matters of significance, including opportunity prioritization, proposal structuring, and strategic recommendations.\Track and manage opportunities in Salesforce (or similar CRM), ensuring timely follow-up, accurate documentation, and progress toward conversion and revenue goals.
- Identify and lead the response for RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs to secure new business and expand the sales pipeline.
- Stay current on industry standards and best practices, applicable laws, and regulations, and proactively incorporating changes into business development practices.
- Manage and update program-related state portals, ensuring accurate, timely reporting and compliance with standards.
- Proposal Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with consulting, executive, and operations teams to create proposals, scopes of work, and budgets aligned with client objectives.
- Advise internal teams on business development strategy, providing insights from client interactions and market research.
- Contribute to forecasts, pipeline reports, and strategic business planning by analyzing trends, revenue potential, and competitive advantage, with a focus on identifying opportunities likely to convert to signed agreements.
- Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Perform office and non-manual work directly related to the management and general business operations of the company and its clients.
- Stay abreast of business development best practices, recommending iterations to Intrepid processes to align with best practices.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance, including client engagement strategies, proposal recommendations, and business opportunity prioritization, while ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards in business decisions and client interactions.
- Support leadership with data-driven recommendations that impact business operations and strategic decisions.
- Share insights and guidance to assist colleagues improve their sales and client-facing skills.
- Industry Representation & Market Insight
- Represent the company at conferences, external meetings, and networking events to generate leads, strengthen relationships, and enhance market presence.
- Collect and share insights on industry trends, competitor activity, and client priorities to inform business strategy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field required.
- Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in B2B business development, consulting, account management, or customer success, preferably in healthcare or professional services.
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth, meeting/exceeding targets, and converting qualified opportunities into signed agreements or contracts.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency exercising discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance that impact business strategy and operations.
- Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues on best practices for business development, proposal preparation, and client engagement.
- Strong knowledge of California regulatory requirements and experience ensuring compliance in business development or program implementation contexts.
- Experience managing program-related portals or regulatory platforms, ensuring accurate, timely reporting and compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professional presence in internal and external interactions, including executive-level stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven recommendations that impact business strategy and operations.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce or similar) and productivity software such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time for client meetings, conferences, and networking activities.
- Applicants must reside in California or New York. California is strongly preferred.
Compensation
This exempt, salaried role is eligible for a performance-based commission plan. Base salary ranges from $80,000 to $110,000 DOE/qualifications. Offers will be made based on experience and qualifications, with offer expected in the lower to mid-point of this range. On-target earnings (OTE) are estimated at approximately $120,000 per year.
